Witney Town Bowls Club is located in the picturesque market town of Witney in West Oxfordshire on the edge of the Cotswolds. It is the oldest sports club in the area still on its original site, situated within the amenity Conservation Area of The Leys within walking distance of the town centre.

 

As well as offering a year-round programme of up to 6 x outdoor bowls rinks (summer) and 3 x indoor short mat bowling (winter), the club has been an integral part of the Witney community for well over 110 years. It maintains close links with both the local Councils and has regular contacts with branches of Witney Lions, Rotary, Age UK and the local Boccia group.

The club is delighted that its modern pavilion built in 2014 is fully accessible to wheelchairs and mobility scooters; the club was awarded a 2017 'Inclusive Symbol by the District Council', in providing bowling plus social facilities all year round, and are pleased that it will be continued for the next 3 years. The pavilion has level access with disabled parking spaces at the front gates.

 

Built with the help of a Community Grant & the large generosity of it's members, the Club is happy to make it available to the local community for functions, meetings, activities and parties.

 

The Club is constituted as a Community Amateur Sports Club and has no restrictions on membership.

The Club is affiliated to Bowls England and English Short Mat Bowling Association.

               

We welcome visitors from other clubs and invite you to include us in your touring schedule. Witney has a fascinating history and for hundreds of years was famous for making blankets. This came to an end in 2002 when the last mill closed, but there are many buildings remaining that are connected with the industry. The area has many good hotels convenient for visiting surrounding Cotswold towns and villages. Many of these have Bowls Clubs and they would welcome visiting bowlers to take part in a game of bowls and share hospitality with them afterwards.
